Priga Locus Blog #8

- Priga Locus V2: Mantle Eden

Happy Halloween!

Bedrock Germination

Priga Locus was created one year, four months, and 25 days ago.

From the moment I knew I seriously wanted to cut my teeth on webnovels I was certain I would need a website sooner or later. Just made sense, you know? To be hosted somewhere is to be under the whims of unknowable forces, so its better to spread out, to have somewhere to retreat.

Back then, I knew literally zero HTML, or what CSS was beyond a vaguely related term. Followed the tutorials Neocities recommended, created some nonsense as I went, and would you know it? Programming can actually be kind of fun! These two languages, anyway. For the foreseeable future I'll be maintaining my position of fuck Java.

I "inaugurated," additional quotes ommited for ease of reading, version 1, Bedrock of All, the moment I thought I had a solid vision of what I was making and what my next steps were. A backup for my novels, a hub for my presence elsewhere, a blog! A fucking blog! A fucking blog I don't even know what to do with!

It paid off, me thinks.

Vita Ex Nihilo.

This is where I would show you a side-to-side comparison between the current home page and the V1 version, if I wasn't paranoid about using too much of my allotted space on images.

Some of the changes, I think, wouldn't even be visible. Does a flex sidebar look meaningfully different from a float one? Don't remember! I do keep backups from back then, but I haven't checked those in a long, long while.

Same with the colors. Green and red, one of my favorite combinations, slightly beneath black to white monochrome but I think this one is more personable, more distinctive, if not very "professional" in the traditional sense.

But again, what here is? I don't think it's particularly a secret that Priga Locus was not design to follow the corporate favorite style of sleek minimalism, nor is it the kind of website you would show to, say, a prospective employer, despite being my center of activity. Not like I'm unique in this, hell, most of Neocities is built on a certain disdain for the conventional modern web, it's just something that sticks on my mind.

Personality does provide a point of friction, that much is true. Ironically enough however, so does the lack of personality. Little to no taste is a taste in itself. Subtlety is a powerful tool but also a severely overstated one, sometimes its better for thing to just pop off, yeah?

Yeah, you get it.

But, What Grows Here?

Back in V1, I had so many plans in mind I had a solid list of to-dos guiding me. Now? No such luck.

I do have a couple priorities though. First and foremost will be working on my archives! You may have noticed, but I've been updating the MAIT chapters here to the most up-to-date versions and I plan to push it all the way to Children of the Lake this time, until its caught up with my latest editing pass.

Second priority will be cleaning. A couple flairs that I planned but never implemented, some visuals that intended to change by yesterday but never got around to, and at least one pesky bug that annoys me to no end but I have no idea how to tackle.

Third? A little guy. I want a little guy so bad! A little guy to represent Priga Locus, a mascot, an avatar, all of those and a more at once! Maybe after I finish this one model I'm making...

What else? Feels lame to just leave it at three, but nothing comes to mind right now. Guess I'll have to see as I go.

Skittering Across Incandescent Tunnels

With that being said, we do have one last topic to talk about, not entirely unrelated to the website: Let me give you an update on my works, and where they stand right now.

New Novel: Going Well! Had some good progress on my drafts, and caught a few holes I should address before starting the edit pass. Current plans: Finishing at the very least two arcs before I start posting (don't worry, these are a lot shorter than MAIT arcs) by January. If anything gets in the way, I'll keep you guys informed.

MAIT: Did you see it now has a chapter zero on RR? It's a temporary measure meant to keep folks old and new updated on which chapter I last reworked. Reworked, yes, because turns out I just can't help myself, my stomach churned too bad reading certain chapters so I just had to rewrite whole scenes and conversations. That being said, a full rewrite of the whole novel is still NOT in my plans any time soon, it's still an editing pass, just more comprehensive than initially planned.

(Crossing fingers, knocking on wood)

MAIT Wordbuilding: I keep extensive worldbuilding documents on my works so I remember every chuuni ass name I create in my fits of madness, and Mariwa's in particular have been left in a state of utter atrocity. Outdated information, incomplete sections where I already canonized stuff, oh, the works! I plan to fix this by the end of the century, or the soonest I can look at the horrors and don't feel the need to puke. 2200, give or take?

Misc: Did you know I used to love doing NaNoWriMo, back before I had MAIT to occupy my writing time? I briefly considered doing the RR equivalent for a while, create a little off-the-cuff novel to have fun for a month, but alas I have enough on my plate right now. But, maybe next year? I'll gauge interest until then, but it might be a fun project.

(For the same reason, I'm currently not working on any website exclusives right now. I sincerely apologize, I'll see what I can do)

As always, be sure to keep up with the website for news and announcements, but I think this is it for now.

Thank you very much for sticking with me so far! I know I'm not as active as I should be, specially when I'm not posting weekly chapter anymore, but I see the numbers tick and I can't express how grateful I am for your interest!

As always, I hope you have a nice week, and a nice Halloween season coming tomorrow. We'll see each other before the year's over, but until then, rest well!
